The artist delights spectators with fun and frolic, confusion and laughter. In fonts that call up images of a town decked out for a festival, a circus big top, or a Broadway musical poster, the letters jostle like tightrope-walkers on a wire. "Masan et Masan" by Terawat Teankaprasith, 2019.
Water hyacinth grows wild in the estuaries of Thailand. It is picked and then dried in the sun, before its stems are woven into wicker objects. For Masan et Masan (the woven horse), illustrator Terawat Teankaprasith observed these ancestral processes, then drew these two heads facing one another, like figurines in a children's game. In the center of this triangle adaptation, the two horses almost form a ring, drawing the eye into their graphic and hypnotic circle.
